While on vacation in Guatemala I saw a new low carb weight loss article by CNN.

The air quality and fires (plus the general state of our country) had my eyes riveted towards the news, even while I was on vacation in Guatemala.

So I was a bit surprised when I saw a recent article by CNN highlighting a weight loss study.

Wasn’t CNN just supposed to cover Trump? (I’m joking … sort of)

Since I help chronic dieters (people who have tried dieting over 10x and gain weight after each diet) I was a bit crestfallen when I saw the article.

Now if you have been following my work for any period of time you know how strongly I feel about diets.

First, this might be obvious but I am about Enlightenment from traditional weight loss approaches.

Why am I against diets?

Because I literally think diets are a form of Samsara (or mass delusion).

Think to back in the day when people believed there was no harm to cigarettes. That was a type of mass delusion.

And nowadays we have diets.

What’s crazy is that Tracy Mann, from UCLA, analyzed every single long term weight loss study and found that diets:

  1. do not work – for about 99% of people diets do not result in weight loss
  2. About 50% of people who diet actually gain more weight because they dieted!

She even says “People on diets typically lose 5 to 10 percent of their starting weight in the first six months, the researchers found. However, at least one-third to two-thirds of people on diets regain more weight than they lost within four or five years, and the true number may well be significantly higher”


Here in Silicon Valley where I live, this type of short sightedness is just plain wrong.

It’s done for clickbait headlines rather than to present a more nuanced understanding of weight loss.

Talk about fake news.
