Why do I emotionally eat? I’m a San Jose Eating Disorder Coach/Counselor and this video describes why.
It’s a common question.
It’s such a common question that about 50% of people say they are uncertain about why they emotionally eat.
Here is the other video about stress eating I mentioned in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgcMaReHr-Y
For example, one guy I work with he reports that he is confused, uncertain and ambiguous as to why he emotionally eats.
When he tries to examine his emotions, all he sees is chaos.
How can you discover ‘why’ you compulsively eat if you just feel confused about your emotions?
Why Do I Emotionally Eat
The answer is to ask – Am I feeling positive, neutral, or negative?
This three-part question comes from Buddhist Psychology.
I first became exposed to Buddhist Psychology when I did a 10-day silent Vipassana retreat 10 years ago.
Later on I would live as a buddhist monk for 13 months.
Here’s what this Positive, Neutral, Negative Question does …
It gives you a label.
If you are feeling confused … that’s a negative label.
You may not know what you are specifically feeling, but you know you’re feeling bad.
Just saying you’re feeling bad, neutral or positive can be the first step towards understanding why you emotionally eat.
