The gifts of imperfection let go of who you think … to heal binge eating. As a coach in San Jose I see the idea of perfection and here’s my response.
Imperfection for many people = untolerable.
We don’t tolerate imperfection. We try to hide from imperfection.
Yet imperfection only leads to this equation here:
This is a formula that happens around eating all the time.
We think we need to lose weight.
So we diet.
The gifts of imperfection let go of who you think
Yet then our bodies think they are starving so our bodies crave food.
We fear these cravings.
We are taught these cravings are wrong, when in reality they are perfectly natural responses to starvation.
Diet programs and mainstream society set you up with false standards of success.
After fearing the cravings, you judge the cravings as bad. The cravings come from your body so you judge your body as bad.
This leads to ever more fear of your body and distrust and disconnection.
This is what happens when we don’t talk about shame. Fortunately Brene is starting to talk about Shame.
